{"id":307,"date":"2020-04-30T15:04:19","date_gmt":"2020-04-30T15:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.illinoisstate.edu\/euphemism\/15-2\/?page_id=307"},"modified":"2020-04-30T20:25:36","modified_gmt":"2020-04-30T20:25:36","slug":"after-storm","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/15-2\/poetry\/after-storm\/","title":{"rendered":"After the Storm"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">by <strong>Richard Luftig<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, a blue wash&nbsp;<br>of sky, then clouds&nbsp;<br>in the humid dark,&nbsp;<br>so low they seem&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">to touch the ground.&nbsp;<br>This ground of her&nbsp;<br>he can barely recall&nbsp;<br>as if he had fallen&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">asleep one person&nbsp;<br>only to wake up another.&nbsp;<br>He remembers how&nbsp;<br>they would stand there&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">almost touching in winter&nbsp;<br>wind, close, so close&nbsp;<br>as if the frozen earth&nbsp;<br>beneath their feet&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">could not be trusted.&nbsp;<br>And now, all that he has&nbsp;<br>left is her words that&nbsp;<br>he keeps like souvenirs&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">safe and untouched&nbsp;<br>under glass.
