She was my lover and my friend…
Those who lived within her
Were mine to take care of
Mine to discipline
I explored her crevices
Caressed her sides
Her curves
Her angles
She allowed me on her shoulders
So that I could be safe
And look down on the world
Sometimes we fought
But I knew her better than anyone
And she would always welcome me with open arms
She sheltered me
And I took care of her in return
Taking down those who would hurt her
And take her for their own
She was my city
And though I’ve been away for so long
I know she’ll take me back with eagerness
Because just as she is mine
I am hers
