What of the bird that never left the nest?

What of the bird that never left the nest?
A chick stuck in a tree, the sorest sight
to see. Talons like roots, legs hold their best.
Wings with no purpose, in the day or night.

Elegant feathers, never to be seen.
Home becomes a cage. Life loses meaning.
Freedom weathers; choice is only a dream.
No more care received; bird brain is weaning.

Stunted growth, bones ache. Tight joints need a shake.
Don’t look down; an inevitable fate.
Falling short, life’s bad dream. Eggs need to break.
All dreams end. Reality will not wait.

The forgotten bird; jumping to the test.
A flight filled fall, puts an old bird at rest.
