Nested Things<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every day we make this earth less\u00a0alive, less legal.<\/em>
What is this diminishment<\/em>\u00a0
but sin against god<\/em>\u00a0
which is a program<\/em>

The dust-laden wind of December\u00a0
Smells Saharan.\u00a0
I lie in my cold bed as words\u00a0
from the chapel hang from the ceiling,\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

from dust you come, dust you go\u2026<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

World, listen.\u00a0
I diminish society\u2014a union\u00a0
of homemade fire and salt\u00a0\u00a0
carving judgment for my body.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I mold darkness in my tongue,\u00a0
in my illicit moaning, in decibels flying\u00a0
high against the wrench\u00a0
of the room\u2019s stillness.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes my body is a pool\u00a0\u00a0
of wreck\u2014\u00a0
a contraption forged for\u00a0\u00a0
complexity,\u00a0
many\u00a0times\u00a0a parcel of society,\u00a0
a throne of judgment.\u00a0
I carve judgment for my body.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A man walks in the street\u00a0\u00a0
lacing the dusty wind with fire,\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

awake from <\/em>your <\/em>slumber\u2026<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

if the cold night could give up silence,\u00a0
\u2018but who wants to hear what is evil?\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the trailing corner of\u00a0my\u00a0
night, I kiss the floor, unsure of the next\u00a0
word, next name, next posture. Unsure\u00a0
of the marble floor peering\u00a0
blank in the dark.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

World, listen.\u00a0
When my knees cling to marble,\u00a0
what name should I put on my tongue\u2014\u00a0
the devil sweeping through the streets\u00a0
with chaos, or god watching from the sky?\u00a0
What foot parades mercy?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in Hawaii, afternoons\u00a0
were planted on solemn walks.\u00a0
I wrapped my gaze on a slender\u00a0
aspen shaking off for winter, blooming\u00a0
for spring.\u00a0
A tree knows no regret.\u00a0
