My Apology to You

Jess Norris

How long had you suffered in the silence,

calling out for someone,

anyone, to hear you

to find you,

enveloped in that darkness

alone?

The crying,

The fear,

The torment,

The pain,

every sign you gave,

every sign they ignored.

You saw no end to the nightmares,

to the whispers in your head.

How did no one see?

Your demons became louder,

until one day the voices ceased,

and the quiet became deafening.

When all hope was lost,

you suffocated in your terror, drowning in the unknown of tomorrow,

surrendering to the void.

Falling into an abyss of numbness

concealing your hurt,

your guilt,

Yourself.

This is my apology to you.

To anyone who couldn’t defeat their darkness,

to anyone who felt isolated when facing their demons.

I’m sorry that no one heard your silence.

I’m sorry you were alone.

You aren’t anymore.

I’m sorry.

I’m sorry.

I’m sorry.

I’m sorry.
