{"id":307,"date":"2021-11-30T01:49:12","date_gmt":"2021-11-30T01:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.illinoisstate.edu\/euphemism\/17-1\/?page_id=307"},"modified":"2021-12-01T16:29:04","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T16:29:04","slug":"the-people-i-call-home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/17-1\/the-people-i-call-home\/","title":{"rendered":"The People I Call Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Kathleen Levins<\/h5>\n<p><em>Oh how lucky I am to be in this house I can call a home,\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>To have the comfort of knowing I am never alone.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>To grow up in a place filled with more laughs than tears,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Where new memories are made every year.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>A place where I can be myself,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In a world that is pressuring me to be someone else.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>To have a nice cooked meal every day,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And be surrounded by people that miss me when I\u2019m away.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>A place that once was just\u00a0brick and stone,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Yet is now my backbone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Not because of the windows and wood,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But because of the people who fill it up; that\u2019s what makes it so good.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Every Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve,\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Filled with people who will stand by my side; never leave.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>All the jokes and all the late nights,\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>All the smiles and laughs that make my world so bright.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>We have been through the good, and also suffered through the sad,\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But when we all stand together, it isn\u2019t as bad.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Many things will change, but one will stay the same,\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The good times we have can never be tamed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>We\u2019ve lost very special people in which we\u2019ll always love,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But are grateful to know they\u2019re watching us from above.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>We\u2019ll add new faces every here and there,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And hope they grow up knowing how much we love and care.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>It all comes down to the mere fact that a home is not characterized by the bricks and stones,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>For if it was, we would all be pretty alone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Rather a mansion or a shack,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019s not the house but the people that will always have your back.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>So I\u2019ve come to a conclusion that I will try to embrace,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There\u2019s no such thing as a happy place.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019s the people, not the place in which I look to as a home,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And saying that, I can almost guarantee I will never have to face this\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>world alone. <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathleen Levins Oh how lucky I am to be in this house I can call a home,\u00a0 To have the comfort of knowing I am never alone.\u00a0 \u00a0 To grow up in a place filled with more laughs than tears, Where new memories are made every year. &nbsp; A place where I can be myself,&hellip; <\/p>\n<p class=\"toivo-read-more\"><a href=\"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/17-1\/the-people-i-call-home\/\" class=\"more-link\">Read more <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">The People I Call Home<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":46,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-307","page","type-page","status-publish","entry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/17-1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/307","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/17-1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/17-1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/17-1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/46"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/17-1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=307"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/17-1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/307\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":308,"href":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/17-1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/307\/revisions\/308"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/17-1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=307"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
