HIRAETH

Aritrika Roy
I come from the lands where all is forgotten.
I seek answers to the moss-covered questions.
I have come a long way looking for you.
I passed through an abyss just to share the light with you.
The earth seems hollow at times.
Dense and dark are all that one could find.
The craters seem to swallow me,
But do they know I don’t surrender so easily?
You shine bright like a beacon.
Guiding everyone who has lost his power of reason.
I wondered if you are the line at the end of the race,
But was startled to find out you were never there in the first place.
Your radiance is enough to penetrate through the darkness.
The eternal glow that warms up cold nights like a furnace.
Your burning embers make me crave for you even more,
But how do I find the key to your forbidden door?
Your presence is sacred.
Enough to turn belief into hatred.
If it is only by a touch that we are separated,
Please come to me for I have been defeated.
I shall never find the answers to the questions I seek.
Suddenly everything feels so dull and meek.
Knowing you were there, I wanted to win so bad.
Now, with all the lights off, I don’t even possess the sanity to be mad.
