{"id":401,"date":"2022-04-08T03:17:38","date_gmt":"2022-04-08T03:17:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.illinoisstate.edu\/euphemism\/17-2\/?page_id=401"},"modified":"2022-04-29T07:05:10","modified_gmt":"2022-04-29T07:05:10","slug":"elizabeth-without-facetime","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/17-2\/poetry\/elizabeth-without-facetime\/","title":{"rendered":"Elizabeth Without FaceTime"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Wortley Clutterbuck<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth, where can ye be?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve waited a lifetime for thee;<\/p>\n<p>I know you\u2019re out there, set apart,<\/p>\n<p>because of words that say thou art.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The person that I\u2019d love the best<\/p>\n<p>won\u2019t look like they\u2019d hold much int\u2019rest;<\/p>\n<p>the person that I\u2019ll truly love<\/p>\n<p>may not look like whom I\u2019ve thought of.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to find the perfect mate<\/p>\n<p>when vision\u2019s often insensate;<\/p>\n<p>it\u2019s not her figure or her clothes \u2014<\/p>\n<p>there\u2019s other qualities I chose.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The portraits of her don\u2019t disguise<\/p>\n<p>I won\u2019t love this one with my eyes;<\/p>\n<p>but when I listened to her mind,<\/p>\n<p>I knew that this love would be blind.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The one that I may first ignore<\/p>\n<p>will often be her I adore;<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth, without Facetune \u2014<\/p>\n<p>it\u2019s what\u2019s inside that makes me swoon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Forget her smile, her looks, her way \u2014<\/p>\n<p>these ornaments change day to day;<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll count the ways that I\u2019ve been smote \u2014<\/p>\n<p>it\u2019s from the comely words she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth, it\u2019s who ye are<\/p>\n<p>and not some hollow avatar;<\/p>\n<p>it\u2019s not how your form gets arrayed,<\/p>\n<p>it\u2019s from the poems ye have made.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wortley Clutterbuck &nbsp; Elizabeth, where can ye be?
