 <\/p>\n

Quiet, he tells her,<\/p>\n

You’ll disturb the fish,<\/p>\n

but she’s sure, the silence<\/p>\n

disturbs her more<\/p>\n

than any school of silver trout<\/p>\n

cruising innocently<\/p>\n

along the river bed,<\/p>\n

ignorant of men.
\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He was up early<\/p>\n

with tweezers, magnifying glass,<\/p>\n

making lures.<\/p>\n

Even then, it was<\/p>\n

“don\u2019t bother mean”<\/p>\n

and hands, more excited<\/p>\n

to be making these<\/p>\n

than touching her.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now, he thinks, with her book<\/p>\n

and her back against a tree,<\/p>\n

she should be enjoying this.<\/p>\n

Or, at least, the sight of her<\/p>\n

thumbing softly through the pages,<\/p>\n

is the closest he comes<\/p>\n

to putting her out of mind.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nothing\u2019s biting<\/p>\n

but that doesn\u2019t seem to matter.<\/p>\n

She remembers what was hooked<\/p>\n

at five a.m.,<\/p>\n

her lover on that tiny fly,<\/p>\n

his wide eyes like bass<\/p>\n

snapping at the hook,<\/p>\n
