Charming chirps alongside busy buzzing<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Surrounds me with a sort of comfort, but<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A lingering sense of dread<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Persists.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Salacious sunlight casts its false glow.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I sense his tippler scent before he attacks,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stalking around the corner with a smirk.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Does he truly believe I don\u2019t perceive his\u2026<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wicked intentions within?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYour coat is so bright and beautiful, baby<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Were you hoping to catch my attention?\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The wolf whistles, as if his words were benign.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But my coat? Its ocher hue wasn\u2019t intended<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For your thrill.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I merely ignore him at first.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Offer him a taste of silence,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Knowing nothing will differ<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If I give him a reaction,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Or if I <\/span>refuse<\/span><\/i>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He lunges at me, teeth intent upon<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Breaking the skin of my throat<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And I remain frozen in fear.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Can I stop the inevitable?<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Is my role only to become<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His prey?<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Somehow, I dodge the onslaught of fangs,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Narrowly missing my demise by a fraction,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Surprising the hunter with my sudden movement<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I run<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And I run<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And I run<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Until my legs freeze up once more<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Along with my misled mind.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Huntsmen are all around me, <\/span>us<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What else are we meant to do?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pretend they aren\u2019t there, lurking amongst shadows?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Waiting to devour us when we least expect?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Thus, snow white morphs to scarlet,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And pure little rabbit becomes fox,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sly in the face of howling predators.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s the only way we can escape\u2026<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
