{"id":321,"date":"2022-11-13T23:14:25","date_gmt":"2022-11-13T23:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.illinoisstate.edu\/euphemism\/18-1\/?page_id=321"},"modified":"2022-11-13T23:27:57","modified_gmt":"2022-11-13T23:27:57","slug":"an-ordinary-day-september-14","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/18-1\/poetry\/an-ordinary-day-september-14\/","title":{"rendered":"An Ordinary Day (September 14th)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Skye Bennett<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A gentle caress of wind<\/p>\n<p>Sweeps across my path.<\/p>\n<p>Innocent and harmless,<\/p>\n<p>It seems\u2026<\/p>\n<p>But just strong enough<\/p>\n<p>To topple me over.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The breeze is brief.<\/p>\n<p>It never lingers long\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Yet, it still leaves me<\/p>\n<p>Laying in this landfill,<\/p>\n<p>Longing for substance,<\/p>\n<p>Wasted within winter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Today will be different.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I can feel it in my bones!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The gale grins gently at me,<\/p>\n<p>Its amiable embrace luring<\/p>\n<p>Me into a false security of<\/p>\n<p>Fulfilling my selfish need to be<\/p>\n<p><em>Wanted.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As the evening eventually meets its end<\/p>\n<p>And skies flood with crystal clear silence,<\/p>\n<p>That guiding gust is nowhere to be found<\/p>\n<p>Lost amongst the endless sea of clouds.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Succumbing to this solitary storm,<\/p>\n<p>Only my breath meets the flame.<\/p>\n<p>Blowing out a whispered prayer,<\/p>\n<p>Of <em>you made it, happy birthday\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Skye Bennett &nbsp; A gentle caress of wind Sweeps across my path.
