What once was
Archaic, gentle, feminine…
9 inches fell to the desolate floor.
A disaster in the mind of the beholder.
Another life vanished in a snipping second.
Tears of seldom,
Screams of ignorance,
Moans of persistence.
All gone in a moment of certainty.
Lost or freed?
Innocent or dignified?
A child or a woman?
It was a nuclear holiday,
and the salon was offering 15% off.
She was too old to be carrying that much weight.
Her exposed collarbones might be too “sexy”,
But they could no longer be covered.
Her tireless attempts at running could now be seen in the whites of her eyes.
“That is a bold change.”
Is it bold if it wasn’t a choice but an ambivalent decision to find tranquility?
An attempt to erase the thoughts that trailed her mind,
every time she ran her fingers,
through the one thing…
She didn’t own.
