Sand and Water

Nico Samuels

Pillars of fledgling civilization-

Known of us, gave us life

Subtly segregated—lost in the confines of self

Sand|and|Water

One feels gravity between them

Many are lost in this forced co-habitation

How could these pillars lose themselves so?

Sand:

Stationary, content, complacent; a warm blanket enveloping the land, golden.

Cannot withstand even the smallest wave

Water:

Amorphous, characterless, cunning; taunts the sand; it beckons

Hypnotizes with its swaying; its trademark.

Sand will become sediment

On the desolate ocean’s lightless floor

Miniscule life disturbing and kicking it up,

For a new flicker of meaning

Only for it to fall to fate
