{"id":289,"date":"2024-11-20T21:42:36","date_gmt":"2024-11-20T21:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/20-1\/?page_id=289"},"modified":"2024-11-30T03:30:52","modified_gmt":"2024-11-30T03:30:52","slug":"the-big-guy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/euphemism.illinoisstate.edu\/20-1\/the-big-guy\/","title":{"rendered":"The Big Guy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #ff6600\">by John Grey<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">From my favorite bench,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">I watch some kids<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">playing in the park.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">They\u2019re all as big<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">as I was at their age<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">except there\u2019s one boy<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">who\u2019s much bigger than the others,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">a Gulliver in Lilliput.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">He\u2019s over six feet surely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">His friends are all<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">four foot something.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">He must weigh<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">over two hundred pounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">And, with his muscles,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">he could lift two of his buddies<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">like a barbell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Yet, when they resort<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">to roughhouse,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">he holds back appreciably.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">In the midst of horseplay,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">his size is like a punch<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">permanently held.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">He knows his own strength,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">I imagine,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">and doesn\u2019t want to use<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">it as a weapon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">He\u2019s in his body<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">but only occupies<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">a small part of it.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by John Grey From my favorite bench, I watch some kids playing in the park. &nbsp; They\u2019re all as big as I was at their age except there\u2019s one boy who\u2019s much bigger than the others, a Gulliver in Lilliput. &nbsp; He\u2019s over six feet surely.
