By Jacob Taylor
the sun sets with the loss
of range of motion my arm
can make I fixate on the fore-
arm crutch I see a boy use
in a movie that I don’t yet own
it seems so simple to use
when I have only one arm running
and my leg dies with the other
I cannot rise with the sun
rise but throw my limbs across
my bed to move because
the drugs stopped working
stopped working they stopped
my doctor just stacks more
pills on the new ones stacked
on my desk last shorter
and shorter and shorter
and can’t stop rising and falling
like the sun against the sun
on the hardwood floor
but when I drive to the old
hill that waits for me to climb
I can’t wait for the sun to rise
or fall or implode to climb up
the top to work so I scuff my left
shoe and only my left shoe
my right thigh aches as it shoves
my whole self up the incline
without a rail while medication
melts in my gut restoring
chemical balance in my brain
or so I’m told to slap my leg
and arm back into compliance
days ago I took a cocktail of capsules
to resolve failing pathways
which caused sleep so long
I thought I woke up early
because the sun was still down
when it only just set
