Left, Right, and Left Again

Jack Scholtes

Through mountains and prairies,

My mind wanders endlessly,

Searching for things that catch my eye

Feeling true joy out of smaller things

Among people and places,

Selecting the good and the bad,

Picking facts out like fruit on a vine

Just not regarding their quality

Acting on thoughts to make you see my care,

Within a sporadic mind, not always sure who I am today,

Reminded of a future I never dreamed I could have

But one that is heaven with you at the throne

Beside the tears, fears, and containment,

We swim cautiously, yet willingly,

Playing with the ashes of the earth

Just glad we’re with each other

Pondering on what to like and what to love,

Discouraging sadness when you enter my mind,

My feet hit the ground once more

And I see the familiar route to you

Through the mountains and prairies,

My mind fixates on you, your love, and your sight,

We sit together, looking through the trees

And I see a little glimpse of you in everything that makes me happy.
