She Is Devastation

Alyssa Buckner

The girl that lives inside of me is like dynamite

She’s loud and destructive and she is not safe

She mocks me for biting my tongue because I must love how it tastes

Her eyes forever bloodshot

She’s crying mascara she never gets to wear

She feels the hands on my skin and starts tearing out chucks of her hair

She’s hysteric and tortured

She hears voices in the caves of my head

She screams at them to shut up but ends up screaming at me instead

I hear her beg from her chains

As she watches me let rationality walk away

She slams her fists into my walls because she knows I won’t ask him to stay

I feel the warmth of her blood

She watches it drip onto the floor

My heart cracks as she cries because she doesn’t know what she is anymore

Her voice is suddenly quiet

She sits with me curled up into a ball

I can see from the look in her eyes that we’re about to withdraw
