Giovanni De Lanoy<\/span><\/p>\n

Three AM.<\/span><\/p>\n

The burn of a roar an hour past.<\/span><\/p>\n

It began with the phrase:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLord, at least give me the dignity of pants.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But what could ever be presentable<\/span><\/p>\n

About painting the walls brown and orange<\/span><\/p>\n

With your breath.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I pray<\/span><\/p>\n

At the altar of privacy<\/span><\/p>\n

Between screams:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLord, let me not wake him up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet you cry so for him to wake, child.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLord, what did I do to deserve this?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

My sour compression is too loud<\/span><\/p>\n

And I do not hear its response.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I look<\/span><\/p>\n

Upon my creation with squinting<\/span><\/p>\n

Eyes. It is pungent<\/span><\/p>\n

In the way that only a part<\/span><\/p>\n

Of me can be. I am<\/span><\/p>\n

Within my own hair, binding it.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEnough,\u201d I think, \u201cSamson\u2019s<\/span><\/p>\n

Story always ends.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And so a flood<\/span><\/p>\n

That brings beginnings<\/span><\/p>\n

In scrubbings along ridge lines and cracks<\/span><\/p>\n

Gives me pause.<\/span><\/p>\n

This cannot be all I am,<\/span><\/p>\n

Just a mess to be wiped away with bleach.<\/span><\/p>\n

And so, amidst personal filth, I write<\/span><\/p>\n
