Pink Ribbons

The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. That is why pink ribbons are tied in bows around trees and lampposts on the quad at Illinois State University. You can tell this picture is taken in the fall because of the lack of leaves on the trees. The day seems very gloomy and cold; I can tell because there is no latinosun and if it were a nice day, students would be outside enjoying the weather. The building behind the post seems kind of old and mysterious. It is a red brick building with four sets of windows in the middle. On the right side, the building is being taken over by green vines. You can barely see the right side of the building because of how many vines are there. The vines are even starting to creep onto the white wood windows frames. This part of the campus is very dead. Only one person is seen walking on a pathway, away from the camera on the left side of the building. To my knowledge, it seems that he is coming from class because I can see his backpack. I believe he is wearing a white hat, black jacket, and jeans. There are multiple benches along the perpendicular pathway he is walking.  The lamp post with the ribbon on it is directly in the middle of the shot because obviously that is the main focus of the photograph. In my opinion this picture was supposed to support breast cancer awareness.  It’s odd that supporting breast cancer awareness should be all about happiness and smiles and pink ribbons, while this picture looks a little sad and gloomy. Maybe if more people were around smiling and wearing pink the picture would have looked more supportive hand hopeful. --Maddie Laino
