Half an Eye

Charley Tisch

Frozen on the step she’s busy composing a text
Transported floated from the polished marble stair
Through the throat of the transparent cyber wire spider web she
Uploads stasis into the incorporeal endless digital tangle
Welcoming into her bloodstream a ghostly infection
Puppeteering its way along the central nervous system
Leeching its way into the brain where it unzips the pouch
The dopamine drools down the warm tissue
Down each seam splitting the beating pulsating brain
Down the sinewy cords
Down the silky neural pathway cobweb strands
Struck in some sort of satisfaction
Her body remains locked as her mind
Shifts travels with the pixels of the LED
Eyelids stretched wide and deaf to her own tapping fingertips
She descends toward the next stair shackled to the screen
Blind to the world her heel hits the air above the next stair and
Bicycles in loops as her body bag of potatoes stumbles clumsily
Until the ball-pit absent drywall corner greets her skull with a squish pop
