A Spark of Lightning

by Ryan Cory

A spark of lightning, the rays of thought

Her mind awakens, her body wrought

With pains and sores, she attempts to rise

She covers her face, she shields her eyes

Her thoughts are a mess, no longer a stream

A head filled with water, to burst at the seam

She sits up now, her vision blurry

She takes her time, she’s in no hurry

It stands before her, foreign and strange

An agent of chaos, a source of change

She reached for her friend, calling its name

It eyed her with hatred, and she was to blame

Her thoughts came back, her eyes grew wider

She started to crawl, crossed the black divider

Her guilt and shame, always alive

Those two things, her only drive

It reached for her hand, and she as well

And it snapped her arm, with nary a yell
