Andrea Barbosa
I have never been so happy to see a crowded parking lot.
I didn’t mind having to park on the next street over.
The walk from around the corner was relaxing
because it gave me time to think,
and time to calm my breathing.
The walk from around the corner was dreadful
because it gave me time to think,
time where every inhale felt like ice shooting into my chest.
The crowded parking lot showed so much love
all for just one person.
In a crowded parking lot
people showed up for one,
who could no longer join the crowd
In a crowded parking lot,
your smile would have shined brightest among all headlights
your laughter being the loudest above all engines
your eyes glossiest among even the shiniest of paint.
In a crowded parking lot,
all eyes would be on you.
As I stood in a room
full of people I have not seen since high school,
not a single word was to be said to one another.
No stories to share of our time in college.
No stories of what is to become of our future
because the only person who we wanted to talk to
laid in front of us.
In a room full of people who I have not seen since high school
staring at one another,
eyes blurred,
I had never been more blessed
For the crowded parking lot right outside.
