James Friedman
Born inside me is
The very line that dances towards the end
Time is fire and fire dear
Is what moves me to and from the sin
Lively life it is
When time is blindness
Our eyes may yet forgive
But when the wax again dries thick
We feel quite empty looking in
Dance into the night
Nothing new is safe within that fiery life
Death is calm and death is clean
It leaves no messes left to dream
The quiet in my heart
Only whispers within the absence of the dark
Candles however bright lack shine
Sharing air under daylight
The wax it melts away
Pooling slowly down upon a tray
I promise you, throughout my stay
It waited patient for me every day
But death is not unkind
Life is pain as well the origin of strife
Flicker on across the night
Struggle gives death the best of life
Should you burn so, do it bright
Don’t lose your scent trying to decide
The world around us melts away
Our souls are all that’s left behind
Only space is without weight
Though the fire seems so light
