I was a
plain old side table.
Walnut finish
for student apartments.
Cheap prefab.
Nothing special.
But she changed all that.
A southwestern cross-stitched blue afghan
now graces the top of my body.
She added candIes, incense, shells
and other knickknacks of
importance at
east,
south,
west,
north,
center,
creating a symbolic pentacle
of universal unity.
Once a week
she stands in front of me.
Chanting,
dancing,
praying,
worshipping the moon,
the universe,
womanhood,
balance.
I am transformed into
a portal
that connects with
the divine.
I. No longer
insignificant.
I am now part
of the whole.
