Artist Statement:

For some time I have been interested in developing an abstract poetry which is non-representational in the same way that abstract art is non-representational. Invariably, this involves finding ways of breaking syntax and forcing the ear to confront language in a new way.  One of the ways of doing this is through simultaneous voices. “Collider” uses the opening of John’s gospel from the King James version of the Bible, part of a series of set-up instructions for an experiment on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, and two original pieces. Although in many cases, my multi-voice pieces are presented as live performance, relying on chance for the final outcome, “Collider” was deliberately manipulated using synthesized voices and multi-track editing.
