this is how

Ali Znaidi

the colours of a rainbow
are a carnival of an imagined medicine
against pain

the aching body needs colours
moulded onto the psyche
—medicinal beauty revisited

don’t forget that surrender is a black cloud
clinging to the edges of the soul

so just seek panacea in the distant colours
of every rainbow while standing
ankle-deep in mud

just wait for the dark bush
to be filled with the songs
of the rainbow lorikeets
