Poison Ivy

Keely Siciliano

Got broad shoulders, as mama usta say

“swim swim swim”

and feet that grew like that watermelon

seed was supposed to that summer I swallowed

so many.

Two big ears to hear and get infected

peaking through hair like hide and seek

always the tallest in class

“how’s the weather up there?”

and I thought that from such a high view

I’d know it all.

Eventually I stopped

yet the world around me rose like

that ivy on the house across the street they

can’t get rid of.

Shoulders don’t feel so broad anymore

help me mama, cause I can’t swim

this universe is so very big

one person’s so very small.
