The Asymptote

Adam Wykes

when I imagine a soul

it glows white and pale

it has little detail, being universal

its aspect is cipher

a little like a photon

emitted of an electron

on the edge of an atom

on the surface of a neuron

and if that photon travels at C,

and if the universe expands at C,

and if the universe has expanded

for X amount of time before that photon flew

that photon will always be X amount of time

away from the margins

which is where I postulate

heaven’s gate

infinity

which means

I cannot reach God

and I cannot stop reaching

though somewhat nicely

the distance yet to go

will always grow smaller

in relation to how far I have come.
