Hebetudinous Eidolon

Tyler Flynn Dorholt

Low step,
shallow-shadowed, what vine
are you displaying, what root
has you dismayed?

Pick up the tap and catch into
those kneecaps, crackle-boned
sit-slap, break out of brittle-brood
and move a better mood.

Head down, a knickknack nightgown,
what whirl-win can fraught-frown
find in down-down, lips lost,
lisp wisping into wind’s cost?

Are you the pocket-changed, coming
off that range, the wall-lean, the
leg-aloof low stepper?—well do it then,
come back shining again.

Capped hair, lobe-slouched, nose-nerved
in nothing’s pouch, bring back warm
way, glance high on hop and sway,
play deep but please play.
