Dust Bowl

Carly Xagas

a weighted sigh
bursts from my diaphragm

a plume mushrooms upward
grit and debris extending outward

i sigh heavy and often
the wind in my body begging

lungs heaving the dust bowl

and

getting that sandpapery
aridity

out.
