Daylight Savings

Elizabeth Brei

A loud cry in a dark room.
Your hands spin out.
Curves and curls –
Decide where to settle.

Flash neon, neon –
Green, orange, red –
Clear-cut numbers –
Straight lines.

Sometimes,
Bold-faced,
Swinging, swinging –
Heavy in your stomach.

Tick-tock. Tick-tock.
Chirping, whining –
The sun disagrees.
Skies are dark.

Do you have the time?
In your pocket –
moments to spare?
Stuck with lint –
Forgotten.
