Artist Statement:

“Road Tripping” was inspired by my Spring Break trip down South to visit a friend in New Orleans. It is a self-destructive narrative that tracks the mind of an author who, through the course of a writing process, finds itself unhinged from reality by the insanity of psychedelic properties. As the drugs take effect, the course of the story is altered and, eventually, destroyed, leaving room for nothing but the hellishness of a brain kidnapped and imprisoned by its own ideas. The end is a statement about the consequence of decisions; indeed, and the power of the mind. The framework of the setting was obviously influenced by that beautiful city which I was visiting, while the inspiration for the perspective-altering hallucinations was drawn from the overall absurdity of the Mardi Gras celebration of which I found myself smack-dab in the middle. I hope you enjoy reading this piece; creating it was, in the immortal words of someone, a hell of a trip.
