“I Weight, Sun Rising” was initially intended to serve as a narrative poem for workshop. I am very interested in nonspecific narratives, or narratives that do not function in a traditional linear story sense. In this way, I was curious about constructing a circular narrative that looks at the process of a person trying to fall asleep while contemplating themselves. This narrative functions very lyrically as well and builds a strong character. While this poem has been revised, I do not consider it a “major revision” as the core of the poem is still intact. Changes include formatting decisions and overuse of key phrases such as “weighting my all against the down give.” Despite the lack of narrative that was identified in class, I wanted this poem to remain intact as I feel that it expresses an intimate process.
