Each body has different things to carry:
Loose change and cigarettes,
Burdens and regrets.
Weighed down
by the heaviness of it all.
Dreaming of the day
wings will sprout from
our spines.
Tearing open flesh,
ripping down the frame
that constrains our soul
and makes us weak.
Lifting our implanted legs,
forcing a change of scenery.
We’ll float
higher and higher.
Past the people who hurt us.
Past the buildings that trap us.
Pass the sky
that limits us.
