“What could be more urgent than this? This is the big one. The one we have been waiting for since the project began,” I say, still trying to catch my breath.
“He said it had something to do with the top floor. Don’t worry man, I have watched him do plenty of these. Get the subject on the table.”
“I think we should wait until he gets back.”
We both hear the subject moving around in there. We are fully aware that this could wait no longer. I need to stall. I cannot trust Jensen to do the right thing.
He is shouting now “Get it up here!”
As he charged towards me to do it himself, I notice what the cause of the broken glass noise was. Legs, blood, and a broken beaker are sticking out from behind the cabinet. He must have killed Knodes right before I got here. He looks at my eyes and sees that I am now aware of the situation. He lunges at me with a pair of scissors he pulls out from his lab coat. I dodge the initial jab but he adjusts the scissors mid-punch and stabs me in the back of the shoulder as a he pulls them back. I go down and back myself into the corner, reaching for the scissors all the way there. He takes another step towards me and the box, which I knock over on the way to the corner.
Just then, the box explodes open and a large shard hits Jensen right in the jugular. He drops, dead before he hits the floor. I don’t even get a second of relief from Jensen’s attack before I see what rises out of the fragmented box. The beautiful blond I secured into the box under an hour ago has gone through her full transformation.
The thing that rose out of the box was no longer human. Gray, smooth skin, yellow eyes, and bones growing by the second. The last thing I see is its hand, reaching towards me, still growing, grasping my head and squeezing.
The End.
