Green Yellow Red

Green Yellow Red

I sat in my army green jeep watching the lights changing changing again and again it was a

never ending cycle the lights and the control a mere hue had over the world We readily

obey without rhyme or reason We simply obey

Go

Slow Down

Stop

We do it without thinking because Garrett Morgan decided it'd be a hell of a good idea in

1923 And thus the government went along and added it to their rules Rules rules it's a

bloody mess trying to do anything for yourself because you choose to But that damn

government keeps you tied down even our children suffer it moves over the small backs of

children grinding their bones and hearts into the earth now the earth has our dreams You

can be anything you want anything at all well that's a goddamn lie I can't be anything I

want but damn it I'm going to try But there's the earth swallowing up my dreams and the

dreams of others like me sucking my dreams dry like a spider sucks the blood out of a fly

that’s us the flies paralyzed by the spiders web Do you wonder why I'm so enraged why I

cannot stand by and obey these god forsaken lights

I met my les-ancé three years ago last Thursday it was the most miraculous occasion I met

her at a bonfire party something lame but there was free beer and who couldn’t pass that

up Chelsea was there with her boyfriend Michael at least I think that's his name I watched

them from afar drinking my beer carefully I watched as they talked sternly toward one

another their conversation growing heated I lifted my head toward the sky and drank the

last swallow from my bottle I watched again slowly circling my finger around the rim I

watched as she collapsed to the ground from heartbreak I discarded my empty bottle

grabbed two fresh cold beers and went to her as I offered her one I told her that I had been

watching her embarrassed she said she had been watching me too Finally I gained the

courage to speak again I'm Katelyn I said

I sat there watching the lights before me change one after another like it was getting

impatient with me when it finally turned red I smiled and hit the gas
