The Rich Fool

Henry H. Hanson

To the poor he showed disdain;
His life-long goal was earthly gain.
In everything he saw the buck;
His greed had rather run amok.

He bowed to Wall Street every day –
It was a game he loved to play:
Which stocks will rise and which will fall.
With accuracy he judged them all.

His home was filled with fancy stuff

And yet he never had enough.
A huge garage for many cars;
A room that featured three full bars.

A plasma TV on each wall,
A swimming pool that was not small
A bedroom for each wealthy guest –
He failed to see how he’d been blessed.

He felt success was in his sight,
That everything would turn out right.
He never got it through his head
That here on earth we wind up dead!
